AMERICAN PRESS DIGITIZES OVER A MILLION PAGES OF BACK ARCHIVES.
DENVER, Colorado, April 13, 2006 - We are pleased to announce that American Press and Olive Software have partnered to digitize and process the microfilm of the Southwest Louisiana's first newspaper dating back to 1889.
"The value of the digitization is undeniable," commented Gary Fletcher, Project Manager American Press. "The prospect of being able to retain history as captured by the hometown newspaper for posterity is important in itself, however, coupled with the value as an internal resource, makes the project so much more desirable."
American Press archive digitization is planned to take place over the next three years and will contain over one million pages. The newspaper's primary motivations for the undertaking included the future proof preservation, accessibility, and flexibility of Olive's solution.
Kim Dail, VP of Marketing Olive Software, echoed Mr. Fletcher's sentiment when she said: "Preventing history from crumbling in the owners' hands (whether through the means of deteriorating microfilm or decaying newspapers) has always been our primary motivation for offering offline to online conversion technology. Olive is excited to be a part of American Press archive project, and is continuously committed to the highest levels of customer support and satisfaction for these extremely important preservation tasks."
American Press is the newest archive customer that joins a substantial list of Olive's clients that have successfully implemented archive solution, such as: The Oklahoman, Reading Eagle, and Scotsman to name a few.
