Press Release
NEWSPAPERS DEPEND ON OLIVE SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY FOR ELECTRONIC DELIVERY IN IVANS WAKE
DENVER, Colorado, September 17, 2004 - Olive
Software, Inc., innovator of advanced electronic publishing
solutions for newspaper, magazines and enterprise content
management, is powering electronic newspaper distribution
throughout the Gulf region in the wake of Hurricane
Ivan.
The devastating effects of Hurricane Ivan have made
delivery of the printed edition virtually impossible
at a time when residents most need a reliable source
of information. However, enterprising newspaper publishers
are still able to serve their communities by electronically
delivering their print edition with Olive Softwares
ActivePaper platform.
As a community service, Olive customer Freedom Communications
has decided to provide free access to online editions
of The Northwest Florida Daily News (www.nwfdailynews.com)
and Panama Citys News Herald (www.newsherald.com)
until scheduled home delivery can be re-established.
Readers can bypass the subscription process by clicking
on the Access Paper button located in the
orange box about midway down the home page.
This is not the first time weve provided
open access to our online editions, said Tom Porter
of Freedom. Weve done this in North Carolina
during ice storms and realized a jump in online subscriptions
following the offer. People who have been evacuated
from the region, relatives, and those with vacation
homes in the area turn to the local press for the latest
information. Once readers realize how easily they can
access the hometown paper online, one that has the same
look and feel of the print edition, weve gained
a new subscriber.
This is a great example of how an electronic
edition benefits both publishers and their readership,
said Kurt Lozier, VP of ActivePaper Sales for Olive.
This use displays the wide-ranging, flexible business
solution that Olive provides.
The ActivePaper Platform integrates printed, microfilmed
and rich-media content into an open-source, digitally
organized repository that provides highly reusable,
commerce-ready, ePublishing content. Subscriptions to
electronic editions produced with the platform meet
ABC requirements for reporting circulation numbers.
