Despite all the reports of print subscriptions declines, one aspect of the newspaper industry remains strong and shows significant year-over-year growth: Engagement with digital replica editions. As the chart below shows, many Olive Software publishing partners are enjoying significant growth in e-edition consumption.
We gathered the analytics from eight of our larger titles to study the trends. The chart reflects the number of times those papers were read each month starting with January of 2012.
The year-over-year growth rate is noteworthy as well: Total sessions across all these titles have increased by 28% in Q1 2014 vs. the same period last year.
This data covers all platforms including desktop and mobile. Not surprisingly, we’re also seeing a shift from desktop reading towards more mobile consumption. That’s not true in all cases though; some titles remain quite strong on the desktop.
If you’re a publisher you should compare your results to the trend you see with these eight titles. Is your e-edition engagement up 28% vs. last year?
This is the type of data we’re gathering at Olive and we’ll soon offer in in the form of industry reports. You’ll learn about industry-wide usage trends, demographics and much, much more. We anticipate launching these reports later this year, so stay tuned to our website for more details.
